An original 8.5×6.5″ vintage photo from a large collection of American Expeditionary Force (AEF) Signal Corps photos we acquired from the estate of a collector. It has an exceptionally helpful caption written in pen by the image. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery. Photo Overview The photo captures a troop review involving military dignitaries near Le Mans, Sarthe, France, on January 1, 1919. The image prominently features Maj. Gen. E.M. Lewis and Maj. Gen. C.T. Summerall of the 3rd Division, along with a French general. They are flanked by a lineup of soldiers in winter military attire, indicative of a formal inspection or ceremony. The 3rd Division of the U.S. Army, famously known as the “Rock of the Marne,” played a pivotal role during World War I, particularly in the Second Battle of the Marne. This encounter marked a significant turning point in the war, showcasing the strategic prowess of Allied forces. Text Present Maj. Gen. E.M. Lewis Maj. Gen. C.T. Summerall Gen.
